Charleville 0 : 1 Ballingarry (Kate O’Connor)
Ballingarry junior ladies picked up their 6th league title with the narrowest of victories over Charleville on Sunday April 2nd last. The game started off with both teams playing cautiously and little flow to the game.
Charleville were awarded a penalty for a handball in the Ballingarry box. The resultant penalty was missed by the Charleville player. This gave Ballingarry the boost they needed and there were numerous passages of play with both Eadaoin Lyons and Claire Coughlan coming close on occasion. It was nil all at half time. In the second half Ballingarry started off brilliantly with some great passages of play and 5 minutes into second half Kate O Connor received a ball on the left wing, she cut in on her right and hit an unstoppable shot from just outside the box into the top right hand corner of the Charleville goal. The game continued at a fast pace with Charleville getting few chances and Ballingarry getting chances from both play and set pieces where Aine Sheehy and Grace Mullane came close. The game finished 1-0 and Ballingarry were League champions. The cup was presented to Emer Hickey much to the delight of the Ballingarry management, team and supporters. Overall a great game and secured title for the team from the Paddocks.

All in Ballingarry AFC were deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of former player John Walsh. John played for our club from u10s to u16s. He went on to play 50 times at junior level scoring 13 goals. One of his many highlights was on May 16th 2006 when he captained our u13s team to cup glory scoring the winning goal on the day and also picking up the man of the match award.
He was also part of the group of u14s /u15s boys from Ballingarry AFC that travelled to Croagh Park on the 13th of October 2007 as the official ball boys for the Rep Of Ireland vs Germany in the 2008 Euro Qualifier game.
John was really well liked by all that knew him he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends in Ballingarry AFC. Our sincere condolences to all John’s family and friends at this very sad time.
May he rest in peace.
The boys and girls of Ballingarry AFC U10s teams were invited to be mascots for the Ireland v France European qualifier game on Monday March 27th last. After getting an early finish from school, the 6 boys and 5 girls, accompanied by their parents, hopped on a bus bound for the Aviva Stadium. The children and parents were treated to a mini tour of the stadium and the kids were then kitted out in the new French jerseys, ready to accompany the Irish team onto the pitch. Led out by Billy O’Hanlon, who accompanied Irish captain Seamus Coleman, the boys and girls each got to meet President Michael D. Higgins. An incredible experience for all involved!
Mascots on the night were: Adam Dowling; Darren Grimes; Billy O’Hanlon; Thomas Kamper; Liam Reidy; Reuben Huggard; Taylor Cierans; Kate Roche; Emily Curtin; Sinéad Hehir; and Sadie Condron.
