On August 24th 2022. Ballingarry AFC held a commemorative day in memory of four of our five founder members who have sadly passed away in recent times, namely James Clancy, Moss Doody, Moss McAuliffe and Noel Hayes.
Special guests on the day were, Mike Pearce chairman LDFL, Kevin Clifford chairman LDSGF league, John Roche chairman of the LDFL referee’s society, Barry McGann FAI, John Galvin and Pat Everett of the Waterville Community first responders, the Hayes, Doody, McAuliffe and Clancy families, and Fr Tom O’ Carroll.
MC for the day was Paschal Moynihan and in front of a large attendance got proceedings under way by welcoming all to the Paddock on a special day to commemorate our past founder members.
- The unveiling of the entrance arch to the Paddocks in memory of Moss Doody and Moss McAuliffe. The arch was generously donated by the Doody and McAuliffe families in memory of the two great men.
- The Noel Hayes viewing balcony was erected by the club as a tribute to Noel. Situated at the south facing end of the clubhouse overlooking the Paddocks where Noel spent many a day after he retired as a player watching his hometown club play. It will serve as a lasting and fitting memory to our founder member.
- The James Clancy Stand. As a tribute to James the club seated and named the existing stand after James. A 200-seater stand at the Paddocks was something James often spoke about. As he looks down now at his beloved Paddocks, he’ll see his wish has come true thanks to the generosity of our club members, friends of James and the locality community who contributed to the funding of the James Clancy Stand in memory of the great football man.
All present were treated to complementary ice creams, finger food teas and coffee once the formalities were completed, and a very enjoyable 80s night was held in Condron’s bar later that evening.
